Chief Dennis DiDio
Chief DiDio was appointed to the department on January 27, 1987 as a Firefighter assigned to Engine-7. In 1988 Chief DiDio was instrumental in assisting in implementing the department’s HAZMAT team. Chief DiDio was promoted to Captain and served as the departments Hazmat officer.
Upon promotion to deputy chief, Chief DiDio was made the chief of fire operations as well as the HAZMAT team and served as department safety officer. While in this capacity, Chief DiDio improved the fire ground safety of personnel by developing the current accountability system now in use. He also made tremendous advances to the department’s HAZMAT team, including the purchase of a multitude of equipment, increased manning and the purchase in 2000 of the team's current apparatus, Squad-12. The unit was also moved to station-12 and developed into its current designation as the Special Operations Unit. This unit now handles Hazmat, confined space and trench rescue, high angle rescue and heavy vehicle extrication. The unit currently is ranked 7th overall of all teams in the state of Florida and operates with a complement of one Lieutenant and six Firefighters on duty at all times.
Chief DiDio was officially appointed as Chief of Department on, November 14, 2000. Through his close working relationships with County Administration, Community Associations and the Fire Union, Chief DiDio continues to move the department in a progressive and positive direction.
