Survey and Mapping
The Charlotte County Survey and Mapping Section is responsible for maintenance of the horizontal and vertical survey control within Charlotte County.
Horizontal
Network
Identification, restoration, and
preservation of the controlling corner monuments established during the
original cadastral surveys of Florida lands. These corner
monuments, commonly known as section corners, are the basis of
location for all property boundaries within the County. The location
of all property boundaries, acreage or subdivided parcels, are based on
the sectional information as defined by the horizontal network.
Vertical Network
Establishment and maintenance of the vertical control network, known as
height above sea level.
Charlotte County is a relatively flat, low-lying coastal area. The
elevation monumentation and its perpetuation is of utmost importance to
engineers in the planning and maintenance of future and existing drainage
facilities.
State Law and Administrative Regulations require that all new subdivision
plats be reviewed for conformance by a Professional Surveyor and Mapper
for compliance. This function is performed by the Survey and Mapping
Department.
The Survey and Mapping Department provides assistance to other County departments as needed.
Florida Surveying and Mapping Society awarded Charlotte County Survey and Mapping Department the: Professional Development Award for years 1997-1998 and 2000-2001.
