Road Construction Projects

The Capital Projects Management Section develops and implements capital improvement projects for County-maintained roads for increasing capacity and safety enforcement. This role includes the selection of design consultants, coordination with the Real Property Section for right-of-way and easement acquisitions, permitting through local, regional, state, and federal review agencies, bidding and construction of all new and widened road projects within Charlotte County. The Capital Projects Section inspects road construction and resurfacing projects, utility installations within County rights-of-way, and new developments within unincorporated Charlotte County.

Charlotte County roads are classified by the entity responsible for their maintenance:

  • Private - roads completely enclosed within a development which are privately owned.
  • City of Punta Gorda - roads within the Punta Gorda City limits.
  • Charlotte County - roads in unincorporated Charlotte County and certain major roads extending into the  City limits of Punta Gorda.
  • State of Florida - State and Federal roadways such as I-75, US 41, US 17, and SR 776.
