Project Status Update

Burnt Store Road Widening Project, Phase 1

CIP Project C419901

Gary Grossman, Assistant Transportation Engineer

Development activity along the Burnt Store Road Corridor has increased dramatically over the last few years. The need exists to upgrade Burnt Store Road to make it a more efficient, safer emergency evacuation route. To address these pressing issues, Charlotte County is currently designing Burnt Store Road to be widened to a four-lane divided roadway. Phase 1 of the project will be the extension of an existing four-lane road section of North Jones Loop to US 41, additional turn lanes at the US 41 intersection, and the widening of Burnt Store Road from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway (including bridge replacement at Alligator Creek) between US 41 and Notre Dame Boulevard. Phase 2 of the project will continue the widening from Notre Dame Boulevard to Zemel Road.

Future dates and durations associated with this project are approximations and are dependent on funding, permitting, weather, and contractor availability. Permitting for some projects, depending on their complexity, can take years to obtain.
