Dredging Program
The Charlotte County Maintenance Dredging Program is designed to achieve the following:
- Maintain currently-funded channels by initiating routine maintenance dredging cycles.
- Assist in developing new funding districts (MSBU/TU's) for unfunded waterways.
- Consolidate work into larger, biddable projects to achieve the lowest unit cost for removal and disposal of material.
Following were the milestones for the initial years of the County Dredging Program.
2001 - Apply for five-year "exemption" permit from Department of Environmental Protection. (Accomplished)
2002 - Dredging Projects: Lee Branch Creek, Hayward Canal (Accomplished)
2003 - Received ten-year maintenance dredge permit from Army Corps of Engineers (Accomplished)
2004 - Hurricane
Charlie: Initiate Clean-up (Accomplished)
Dredging Projects: Buena Vista/Grassy Pointe,
Pirate Harbor, South Gulf Cove (Accomplished)
2005 - Dredging Projects: Pirate harbor, Northwest Charlotte (Accomplished)
2006 - Initiate
creation of new funding districts. (In Progress)
