Dial-A-RideTransportation

Fares
Exact fare for each trip is required. Drivers are not able to make change or provide transportation for non-payment. Drivers can not transport you if you refuse to pay the fare.

One Way Fares
$3.00 Base Rate (each way), effective Oct. 1 2007
–$1.00 Discount for identified Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) passengers. TD Passengers must identify themselves as such when making trip arrangements.

+$1.00 for crossing the Myakka Bridge
+$1.00 for crossing the Peace River Bridge
+$3.00 trip crossing the Boca Grande Bridge
No charge for children using a car seat.

Service Area
The Dial-a-Ride Service Area includes all of Charlotte County located west of the Myakka River (excluding the barrier islands, but including the Charlotte County portion of Boca Grande Island). It serves all of mid-county, located between the Myakka and the Peace Rivers. And, it includes the Punta Gorda area, extending as far south as Tropical Gulf Acres, east to the Charlotte County Airport, and north to Peace River Shores on US-17. Service on Burnt Store Road extends to South Punta Gorda Heights (Scham Road).

Hours of Service
Dial-a-Ride bus service is available
Monday thru Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm,
and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

No service on Sundays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, July 4th  (Independence Day), or Labor Day.

 

Sunshine Ride (Transportation Disadvantaged) Transportation

How are rides provided?
The Transit Division provides rides with:

  1. 13 County owned buses operated by County Drivers
  2. Local cab companies and wheelchair coach companies.
  3. The following organizations provide the drivers with County provided vans:
    • Veteran's Council
    • Operation Cooper Street
    • Council On Aging
    • STAR
    • Community Mental Health
    • The Haven Drop-In Center

    4.  And a lot of VOLUNTEERS!

Who is eligible?
Depending on available resources, an individual may be eligible for reduced-rate rides if he/she is:

  • Physically or otherwise disabled
  • 60 years of age or older
  • Receiving Medicaid
  • Qualified as Low Income
  • Living in a rural area

Our goal is to help you get where you need to go, such as: health care appointments, jobs, school, shopping, and other life-sustaining activities.

Will I have to pay for a ride?
There will be a co-pay of $1.00 for each trip, effective Oct.1 2007.

Recovery

 

Charlotte County Transit has gone "Green". We have added 5 new Hybrid Diesel/Electric buses to our fleet. These "green buses" were purchased by using Section 5307 ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) capital funds.
