Grove City - General Community Information
Grove City is the oldest community west of the Myakka River, platted in 1886. Grove City is bounded by Buck Creek, Oyster Creek and Lemon Bay. Residential and commercial developments are surrounded by approximately 367 acres of park and preservation lands. The Grove City community planning area is bound by Oyster Creek to the north, Winchester Blvd. to the east, Buck Creek to the South and Lemon Bay to the west. There are industrial, commercial, residential, and preservation land designations and zoning throughout the community’s planning area. Placida Road (CR 775) and CR 771 provide the main roadway access to the community as well as to the adjacent islands of Boca Grande, Little Gasparilla, Don Pedro and others.
Attention Grove City Stakeholders
Related Projects (new information 11/06)
A special “thank you” to all of the “Grove City” and “South
Gulf Cove” stakeholders who have participated in “Scenic
Highway” eligibility activities. For those of you who are not familiar
with this project…I offer the following overview and a link to
the affiliated websites…
Citizens, county representatives, and other interested individuals formed the
Corridor Advocacy Group (CAG) in 2005 and have been working towards a “Scenic
Highway” designation for the entire length of the SR 776 Corridor as well
as the “Cape Haze Loop” (CR 771 and CR 775) and the “Old Englewood
Loop” (West Dearborn Street and Old Englewood Road).
Over 50 “intrinsic resources” with varied cultural, recreational,
historic, and natural features have been identified and mapped for inclusion
in the eligibility application. “Check Out” the links below to learn
more about the incredible resources both Charlotte and Sarasota County have to
offer.
We look forward to working with all of our stakeholders along the corridor, especially
as we move into the planning and implementation phases of this designation. Partnerships
between community groups (such as Civic Associations, Homeowner Groups, Private
Businesses and Non-Profits) the Corridor Advocacy Group (CAG) and the Counties
will open up a realm of grant opportunities to benefit established communities
and other interests along the “Scenic” Corridors.
We shall be speaking with you soon!
