Project Status Reports

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

Bayshore Live Oak Park - This facility will encompass 9 acres on the shores of Charlotte Harbor.  Included in the design will be pavilions, restrooms, river walk path, and fishing pier all in keeping with the design of an early 1900’s park.  The project budget is $4,500,000, and is scheduled to be complete in November 2007. Mathews Taylor Construction Company is the contractor for the job.

 


Charlotte County Sports Park Devil Ray Renovations - The sports park is being renovated for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays spring training facility.  The contract was awarded to Hunt/Mathews Taylor Construction and HOK Architects.  The ground breaking ceremony took place on August 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.  The project will be complete by the spring of 2009.  The budget is $27,000,000. Courthouse Restoration – The exterior will be restored to the original 1926 look, and the interior will be a modern office environment with the first floor slated for the supervisor of elections and the 2nd floor renovated for the appellate court. Construction began in December 2006 and is scheduled to be complete in January 2008.  The Architect for the project is Rowe Architects of Tampa, and the Contractor is Lodge Construction of Ft. Myers. The budget for this project is $ 6,552,000.

 

Event Center - Designed as a multi-function facility, the Event Center is located in Punta Gorda. The project is a design build with Mathews/ Taylor and Harvard Jolly Architects.  The ground breaking ceremony took place on Thursday May 24, 2007.  The project budget is $19.1 million. Public Safety Complex, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) - The facility is approximately 30,000 square feet, and houses the County’s Emergency Operations Center,  9-1-1 and 211 centers, emergency management, and Fire/EMS staff.  The project budget was $11.2 Million, and the Grand Opening Celebration took place on June 1, 2007. 

 

 

Jail Expansion - The jail expansion will double the current 528 inmate housing, and add four out buildings: training armory, video visitation, Sheriff Maintenance, and work release. The project consists of two phases.  The first phase will include the project site work and construction of the out buildings, and the second phase is to expand and renovate portions of the existing jail.  Construction on the out buildings started on May, 2007.  The project is estimated to be complete by January of 2009.  The budget  amount is $44,871,000.


Vehicle Maintenance - This 16,000 square foot facility located at the Public Safety Complex on Airport Road in Punta Gorda is the maintenance location for Fire/EMS, and Sheriff Departments.  The budget amount was $4.8 Million.  The project began in November 2006, and after approximately 7 months of construction the grand opening took place on June 1, 2007. 

 

 

FIRE/EMS PROJECTS  

Fire Station #5 (Englewood) - Charlotte County is constructing the 6,100 square foot station at 10450 Reims Ave., Englewood for the Englewood Fire District. Construction began in August 2007.  The project budget is $2,024,000.

 

 

Fire Station #7 - Construction of a new fire station at the Charlotte County Airport began in Mid March and is expected to be completed in October 2007.  The budget is $2,024,000. The station will be approximately 6900 square feet. 


 

Fire Station #12 -The Fire/EMS personnel are back in the station after a hurricane repairs were made to the facility.  The fire station is the largest at approximately 10,000 square feet. The project was completed in June 2007 with the installation of an Emergency Generator.    

 

 

Fire Station #15 - Construction of fire station #15 began in November of 2006, and the project was complete on May 22, 2007. The facility is located at 13150 Eisenhower Drive, and is approximately 6,400 square feet.  The project budget is $2,225,000.  The grand opening is scheduled for August 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.

 

 

Fire Station #16 - A 6,400 square feet fire station is being constructed at Palm Shores Blvd. in Punta Gorda.  The project was complete on April 10, 2007. The grand opening was scheduled for July 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. The projected budget was $2,225,000. 

 

 

 

HURRICANE RECOVERY PROJECTS

Carmalita Park Football Concession Stand- Construction began on the new football concession stand in April of 2007 and is scheduled to be complete by the first of August 2007.  The facility has approximately 3600 square feet of indoor space.  In addition to the concession stand the building will have restroom facilities, office area, activity room, mechanical room, and equipment and dry goods storage.  The project budget is $1,200,000.

 
 

Eastport Environmental Campus Operations Building - The 27,000 square foot Operations Building is occupied by Environmental Extension Services and Charlotte County Utilities.  The project budget was $2,900,000.  Construction began in May 2006, and the grand opening took place on May 21, 2007.

 

 

East Port Environmental Campus Administration Building - The Administrative Building sustained interior and exterior damage due to Hurricane Charley.  The project included exterior repairs to the siding and roof, and many interior repairs.   This project wrapped up in April, 2007.  The project budget amount was $450,000.

 

 

Health Department Renovations - The Health Department celebrated their grand reopening on January 30, 2007.  The renovations budget was 1.7 million dollars, and included many upgrades.  The Health Department is an 11,000 square foot facility located at 512 Grace Street, in Punta Gorda.   

 

 

 

SALES TAX PROJECTS

Oyster Creek Regional Park - The new park included a paw park, swimming pool, several sports fields, and nature paths with scenic bridges over beautiful Oyster Creek.  The project budget is $10,700,000.  The grand opening celebration was May 17, 2007.
