Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee is mandated by state statute and enforced within Charlotte County by ordinance 2008-070.  It consists of 11 members as follows.

  1. Residential home building industry: Christine Cupp
  2. Banking or mortgage banking industry: Jim Kelley, Colonial Bank
  3. Engaged in labor of home building: Rosanna Goode
  4. Advocate for low-income persons: Jim Sweeney, Charlotte County Housing Finance Authority
  5. For-profit provider of affordable housing: Barbara Lisby-Sowell, Charleston Cay
  6. Not-for-profit provider of affordable housing: vacant
  7. Real estate professional in connection with affordable housing: vacant
  8. Local planning agency member: James Marshall, Planning and Zoning Commission
  9. One citizen who resides within the jurisdiction: Jeff Ahrens
  10. One citizen who represents employers: Barbara Melanson, Charlotte County Public Schools
  11. One citizen who represents essential services personnel as defined in LHAP: Melissa Doyle, Waste Management

The task of the Committee is to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on county policies affecting the cost of housing.  The Committee also approves the county’s Local Housing Assistance Plan every three years.  For more information about the tasks assigned to AHAC, view a presentation from the Florida Housing Coalition on the revised Committee duties.
